mps is proud to be able to offer you xray xperiments vol 2 (xray 003) as a limited edition two disc set for the best reproduction and your listening pleasure. here s a quick breakdown of the tracks, why i like this record so much and a chance to hear it in full if unfamiliar: i first came across this 6 track ep in selecta-disc, northampton, it has been a treasured record in my collection ever since. on the original issue the most popular track, take no chance, was located last on the a side, the lowest sound quality part of any vinyl disc. later, presumably for dj s, a louder cut remix single of take no chance was issued. the track featured again on the compilation classic to the core but sourced from vinyl as aphrodite, who compiled the collection, did not know who made the music so they could not be found

so gerd and philipp were due to play xoyo one saturday night and the club is 6 minutes from my studio so i suggested we go there first to make tunes for a few hours. we made 2 songs that night and one of them is ‘reach out’. gerd did the drums on my 808, philipp wrote the beautiful lead part on my obxa and i did the bass in my cs80. i added the words a couple of weeks later, they are inspired by leonard cohen’s letter to his muse marianne ihlen on her deathbed. seth troxlers definitive dance floor label play it say it has a real coup for their next single: a collaborative track from trendsetting and globally renowned brothers nic fanciulli and mark fanciulli, one that is likely to become an anthem for the months ahead. the high impact star is the sort of big, muscular main room tune that blows crowds away. built around barreling drums and rubbery bass, the track is brought to life with a classic vocal sample from rose royces 1978 hit wishing on a star that truly sets the whole thing on fire. creeping synth sounds add another edge to things and the results are sure to sweep up even the biggest of dance floors. the superb dub version has even more focus on the monstrous drums and allows the synths to breath that bit more for extra euphoric effects. this is a brilliant pairing and it s no surprise the prominent brothers come up with some real house heat here.

after reissuing stanislav tolkachevs masterpiece blue mood, the intergalactic research institute for sound comes back with two fresh pieces from georgian artists zesknel and irakli. following a strong start with de sounds from georgia, this new record explores a more abstract electronic music. zesknel, who is a resident of the renowned bassiani club, collaborates here with irakli on two dreamy and airy soundscapes which aspire to depict and recreate the atmosphere of the georgian capital. to do so, they asked for the help of rezo glonti who proceeded to make field-recordings in tbilisi. this work served as a base in order to create something unique and true to the city. the project is part of a sound installation which aims to blend architecture with sound. the idea of the two artists was to conceive a space where they could translate the spirit of tbilisi. inside that space will be found works exhibited by other georgian artists. and this is all part of the exhibition >lara protects me. eine georgische erzählung< at the museum angewante kunst frankfurt

skinny pelembe corrals together a cast of talented friends for his new ep. it’s his most ambitious release to date, boasting a different group or artist featuring on each of its tracks, each of them an act he’s met through music or through linking with brownswood’s celebrated talent development programme future bubblers two years ago. across its four entries, he bridges hip-hop, psych-rock and jazz-influenced tangents, cutting out a diverse cross-section of the city’s music scene. it’s a document of the connections he’s made as an artist, and is the most collaborative project he’s worked on so far. the title of the ep comes from some advice which skinny noted to himself on an old notebook. each of its songs started as a rough idea which was then fleshed out and re-imagined with his collaborators.

spirituals operates under contradictory, sometimes combating, stylistic principles. somehow, however, small glints of emotive euphoria always seem to emerge from the muck and mire at just the right time. love changes, an eerily relatable distant memory, floats in an unsettling, yet celebratory dreamscape. gersts is nested comfortably in a cautiously optimistic daze. in canadian national, the priming of a train engine turns into a snare-driven house banger ¹ a prime example of spiritualsã obsession with combining natural and synthetic moving parts. as it rotates and revolves through ranges of blissfully dissimilar materials, doumen 07 elegantly drapes us in an emotional, shimmering house-coat with pulsating thumps to wear as our slippers.
